چکیده

Saltwater intrusion risk assessment is a foundational step for preventing and controlling salinization in coastal regions. The Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) highly affected by drought threats, especially severe under the impacts of global climate change rapid development an upstream hydropower dam system. This study aimed to apply modified DRASTIC model, which combines generic model with hydrological anthropogenic factors (i.e., river catchment land use), examine seawater vulnerability soil-water-bearing layer Ben Tre province, located VMD. One hundred fifty hand-auger samples total dissolved solids (TDS) measurements, one reflected salinity parameters, were used validate results obtained both models. spatial analysis tools ArcGIS software Kriging data classification tools) interpolate, classify, map input susceptibility area. show that index values from models 36–128 55–163, respectively. vulnerable indices increased inland districts areas. Ba Tri Binh Dai recorded as having very high salinization, while Chau Thanh Cho Lach at low level. From comparative two models, it obvious inclusion or canal network agricultural practices enables better performance than model. enhancement explained significant impact activities on soil water content. study’s can be scientific implications planners decision-makers land-use management practices.

Arsenic exposure to drinking water in the Mekong Delta.

Arsenic (As) contamination of groundwater drinking sources was investigated in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam in order to assess the occurrence of As in the groundwater, and the magnitude of As exposure of local residents through measurements of As in toenails of residents consuming groundwater as their major drinking water source. Groundwater (n=68) and toenail (n=62) samples were collected in Dong...

Impact of Anthropogenic Land-uses on Salinization in the Yellow River Delta, China: Using a New Rs-gis Statistical Model

Land salinization is threatened with secondary salinization recently because of unreasonable exploitation of natural resources and global change. However, previous assessments cannot obtain comprehensive and spatial explicit statistics and impede to develop ecologically sound policies for government. This study tries to confront these difficulties and identify key anthropogenic determinants, th...

Concentration and fate of trace metals in Mekong River delta.

In the Mekong River delta and its associated coastal zone trace elements concentrations (Cd, Cu, Ni and Pb) were measured in the dissolved phase (DP) during dry (March 1997) and wet (October 1997) seasons. As, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, and Al were also measured in suspended matter (SM) and total and organic carbon, trace elements (Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) and macro elements in superficial sediment...

Evaluating the Sensitivity of Ecosystems to Soil Salinization in the Manas River Basin

Based on Landsat 8-OLI (operational land imager) images and field surveys, we mapped soil salinization across seven ecosystems in the Manas River basin (MRB), and two models of soil salinization (namely an index model and a sensitivity model) were constructed on a regional scale and on the scale of a unit. ArcGIS ordinary Kriging interpolation was used to determine the spatial distribution of t...

Linking rapid erosion of the Mekong River delta to human activities

As international concern for the survival of deltas grows, the Mekong River delta, the world's third largest delta, densely populated, considered as Southeast Asia's most important food basket, and rich in biodiversity at the world scale, is also increasingly affected by human activities and exposed to subsidence and coastal erosion. Several dams have been constructed upstream of the delta and ...
